How To Fix Optimum Router

Always restarting router

I have this weird issue where my internet works fine for a few days or a week then it just randomly goes out. I can restart the router and wait a minute for it to come back and it's fine, but it is irritating to do when it happens often. This issue ongoing for months.

When I called optimum they said they can send a technician but they're going to charge 80 bucks...

Anyone else have this issue?

I had a similar problem with optimum and it turned out that something was very looses on the utility pool outside that caused the problem. Once they fixed that it stopped happening for at least two years now.

If only restarting the router resolves the issue, fortunately your issue may be isolated to only this device. Optimums free routers are pretty low quality, I suggest you invest in a good router.

Put in a new router today and still have the issue unfortunately. Probably calling for a technician.

Optimum has an issue with VPN's as well. My IT has us use a certain setting (PPTP) and they just gone ahead and fucked it all up. I've tried it at three different locations that have optimum and it will not work anymore. I went to sister in law's and it works on FIOS. There are some major shenanigans going on.

Optimum wants $80 bucks to send tech to my house too. Because extension box reboots twice daily at 1130 am and 1130pm

They want to send a signal. Does that fix it? Next day: no it's still rebooting. Optimum: ok I can send a tech out for $80 dollars. Great service.

Buying a new router and modem was a relatively easy way fix for this issue and the signal is better. Also don't have to pay monthly rental fee.
